(13) Irregular Verbs Groups in the Present Tense: Group 2 (Read Libro, U20, p. 195-7)

Group 2: Present Tense of Irregular Verbs (e→ ie): These verbs change their ‘e’ stem to ‘ie’ in most of their present conjugations (but not in the nosotros or vosotros forms).

These verbs are:
Cerrar (to close), comenzar (to commence); empezar (to start); pensar (to think); nevar (to snow); defender (to defend); entender (to understand); perder (to lose); querer (to want, to love); sentir (to feel); mentir (to lie); preferir (to prefer).
Some conjugations:
Yo cierro, Tú cierras, Usted cierra; N cerramos; Vosotros cerráis, Ellos cierran.
(Only in the third person singular: Nieva (It snows)
Yo comienzo, Tú comienzas, Ella comienza; N comenzamos, V comenzáis; Ellas comienzan.
