Direct Object Pronouns (DOP) stand for the nouns or persons that are the direct recipients of the verbs. For example in the sentence: “Yo quiero a mi mamá”, MI MAMÁ is the direct object of the verb. When I want to talk again about “mi mamá” in my sentences, I replace this direct object with “LA”. So I can say. Yo LA llamo todos los dias (I call her everyday). Direct Object Pronouns are for THINGS and PERSONS.

Direct Object Pronouns for Things: lo (it masc), la (it fem), los (them masc), las (them fem).
