Guidelines and Topics for Final Oral Exam SPN 102

You will have 10 min. for an oral interview with the instructor before the semester ends (Mid-April)

ASSESSMENT: Your answers for both parts will be assessed according to these dimensions: Pronunciation (20 p) (How well you pronounce your words and sentences). Proficiency (30 p) (How accurate is your word, sentence and discourse formation), Vocabulary (use of different words) (20 p) and Creative Communication Skills (30 p) (How you negotiate meanings in English and Spanish, strategies for clarification, body and facial language). TOTAL: 100 points.

First part: It consists of general questions about your academic and personal life. Be ready to answer any of these questions.

Buenos días/tardes/noches. 1. ¿Cómo está hoy?; 2. ¿Está usted cansada/o? ¿Por qué?; 3. ¿De dónde es usted?; 4. ¿Dónde vive usted? 5. ¿Cómo escribe su nombre?; 6. ¿Cómo escribe su apellido?; 7. ¿Trabaja?; 8. ¿Cuándo es su cumpleaños?; 9. ¿Qué fecha es hoy?; 10. ¿Qué hora es por favor?          11. ¿Cuánto tiempo ha estudiado en esta Universidad? 12. ¿Qué ha hecho recientemente?

Second part: We will pick ONE topic for your interview (see below). We will pick a second topic when your first one is not strong enough to be assessed. Please prepare your answers for these topics.

Tema 1: Su pasado reciente/Your recent past Dígame qué hizo la semana pasada o recientemente/Tell me what you did last week or recently. Describa lo que hizo/Describe what you did. Algunas preguntas Some questions: ¿Qué hizo el sábado pasado? What did you do last Saturday? ¿Qué hizo para las fiestas del fin de año pasado? ¿Qué hizo el fin de semana?  What did you do on the weekend? ¿Qué hizo anoche? What did you do last night? ¿Qué hizo ayer? What did you do yesterday? ¿Fue a algún lugar especial? Did you go to any special place? ¿Con quién fue? Who did you go with? Haga algún comentario final. Make a final comment about your recent past.  

Tema 2: Su niñez/Your childhood. Dígame algunos eventos importantes de su niñez. Tell me some important events from childhood. Describa lo que hacía de niña/o. Describe what you used to do when you were a child. Algunas preguntas: Some questions: ¿Qué le gustaba hacer de niño/a?  What did you like when you were a child? ¿Qué juegos jugaba? What games did you use to play? ¿Qué hacía usted los veranos con su familia? What did you used to do in the summers with your family? ¿Dónde iba? Where would you use to go? ¿Qué le gustaba hacer? What did you like doing? ¿Por qué? Why? ¿Dónde vivía? Where would you use t olive? Haga algún comentario final. Make a final comment about your childhood.  

Tema 3: Su futuro/Your future. Dígame qué planes tiene para su futuro cercano o lejano. Tell me about your plans for the (near or far ) future. Algunas preguntas: Some questions: ¿Qué planes tiene para este fin de año? What plans do you have for the end of the year?  ¿Qué va a hacer? What are you going to do? ¿Cuándo se va a graduar? When are you going to graduate? ¿Dónde va ir de vacaciones? Where are you going on vacations? ¿Con quién va a ir? Who are going with? ¿Le gustaría viajar a un lugar hispano hablante? Would you like going to travel to Spanish speaking place? ¿Qué le gustaría hacer allí? What would you like doing there? Haga algún comentario final. Make a final comment about your future.
