SPN 101: Weekly Actividades; Irregular Verbs Groups 3-4 in the Present Tense

Semana 13: 08-10-12 Abril-12, 2013

Group 3: Present Tense of Irregular Verbs (o→ ue): These verbs change their ‘o’ stem to ‘ue’ in most of their present conjugations. These verbs are:

almorzar (to have lunch), costar (to cost); contar (to count); encontrar (to meet, to find); mostrar (to show); recordar (to remember); volar (to fly); sonar (to sound), soñar (to dream); llover (to rain); mover (to move); poder (to be able, can); volver (to return); dormir (to sleep); morirse (to die)

Only (u→ ue) verb: jugar (to play a sport): Yo juego, tú juegas, él juega; N jugamos, V jugais, Ellos juegan

Some conjugations:

Yo almuerzo, Tú almuerzas, Usted almuerza; N almorzamos; Vosotros almorzáis, Ellos almuerzan.

(Mostly in the third person; Cuesta (It costs); Cuestan (They cost)

Yo encuentro, Tú encuentras, Ella encuentra; N encontramos, V encontráis; Ellas encuentran.

Group 4: Present Tense of Irregular Verbs (e→ i): These verbs change their ‘e’ stem to ‘i’ in most of their present conjugations. These four verbs are:

repetir (to repeat), reírse (to laugh); pedir (to ask for, to request); servir (to serve).

Some conjugations:

Yo repito, Tú repites, Usted repite; N repetimos; Vosotros repetís, Ellos repiten.

Yo río, Tú ríes, Usted ríe, N reímos, V reís; Ellas ríen.

Mi= My singular, Mis= My plural

Tu= Your singular; Tus=Your plural

Nuestro/a = Our sin.; Nuestros/as = Our pl.

Vuestro/a = Your sing. Spain; Vuestros/as = Your pl. Spain

Demonstrative adjectives

Este= This sing. masc.          Esta= This sing. fem.

Estos = These pl.                   Estas = These fem.

Ese = That sing. masc.          Esa = That sing. fem.

Observe the use of possessive adjectives and demonstrative adjectives in the sentences below.

2.      Ese color es menos triste que este color. That color is less sad than this color.

3.      Esas casas son más pequeñas que estas casas. Those houses are smaller than these houses.
