SPN 102: The Future Tense: El tiempo futuro

Future Tense: It expresses actions to be done in the future tense. In the regular formation of the present tense, we add same endings to all verbs as done with other tenses in Spanish. In the irregular formation, we adopt a number of changes to the stems of the verbs, but we keep the same endings as done with the regular formation. (Read Libro p. 282-283-284).

Regular formation: -AR, -ER, -IR verbs attach these endings for the future tense: é, ás, á; emos, éis, án →

Ejemplos:

ESTUDIAR: Yo estudiaré, Tú estudiarás, Él, Ella, Usted estudiará; Nosotros/as estudiaremos, Vosotros/as estudiaréis, Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes estudiarán.
BEBER: beberé, beberás, beberá; beberemos, beberéis, beberán.
REPETIR: repetiré, repetirás, repetirá; repetiremos, repetiréis, repetirán.

Irregular formation: The eleven irregular future stems are:
Podr- (from poder); querr- (from querer); habr- (from haber); sabr- (from saber); dir- (from decir); har- (from hacer); saldr- (from salir), valdr- (from valer); pondr- (from poner); tendr- (from tener); vendr- (from venir)

Ejemplos:
Querer: Yo querré, Tú querrás, Él/Ella/Usted querrá; Nosotros/as querremos, Vosotros/as querréis, Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes querrán
Haber: (only one form): habrá/n

SPN 102: The Conditional Tense: ¿Qué harías? (What would you do?)

The conditional tense expresses the feeling of future uncertainty generally translated into English as, “would + verb”. It differs from the future tense, which expresses future certainty (Yo iré a Chile a fin de año), in that it suggests possibility were some condition met: Yo iría a Nicaragua pero no puedo (I would go to Nicaragua but I cannot). Note that when using this tense, there will usually be a “but” or an “if” or some other reason given to explain why or why not the action would be completed.

Conditional Tense: Regular formation: -AR, -ER, -IR verbs attach these endings for conditional tense: ía, ías, ía; íamos, íais, ían.
