Review of Present Tense verbs: ‘-ar, -er, -ir” verbs (regular and irregular)

A. Verbs in the present have these endings: trabajar (trabajO, trabajAS, trabajA; trabajAMOS, trabajAN); comer (comO, comES, comE; comEMOS; comEN), vivir (vivO, vivES, vivE; vivIMOS, vivEN). Some verbs change their stem in the present tense: Group 1: Yo irregular: yo hago, yo tengo, etc; Grupo 2: e˃ie: pensar, cerrar, empezar, querer, entender; Grupo 3: o˃ue: almorzar, encontrar, recordar, poder, volver; u˃ue: jugar. Grupo 4: e>i: pedir, repetir, servir.

B. Make two sentences with two regular verbs and two with each group of the irregular verbs.

Introduction Course-Preparation

(1) Learning a Second Language: Focus on another way to express meanings. Spanish: Functions in the US and Spanish speaking countries.
(2) How?: Discovery of meanings in different contexts by observing new words, sentences, paragraphs, stories, images, movements, people in different situations and from various countries, regions, listening to music, eating food with people, dancing, working with other people, interacting with people.
(3) Structure Learning: Focus on how these meanings work in language in context (e.g. newspaper, film, face-to-face interaction, text message). Grammar as a starting point. Look at your grammar: Noun-Adjective-Verb-Complement.
(4) Techniques: Use a diary to reflect on your learning. Use flashcards to learn new words, new verbs combinations. Use a notebook to classify your new words and write new sentences. Start observing new words around you, books, written materials in the new language, start listening to songs, dance, movies, TV programs. Watch a movie with the captions in Spanish or English. Start exploring new meanings in different texts and materials.
(5) Use the language with creativity. Start playing with language right away. Repeat the word in different ways. Build up characters when you say, repeat sentences. Imagine a situation in which you are using the new language, vocabulary. Start creating your own skit to create a monologue, a dialogue, or interaction with another person. Imagine a situation and develop a small story.

D. Act them out moving your body. Express new meanings with them.

ACTIVITY 2: Conociéndose (Getting to know each other)
A. Read the following interaction. Then translate it with your partner.
This is a party in Owensboro in which there are a number of Spanish-speaking people. You have been invited by un amigo. It’s Saturday. It’s 8pm.
1: Buenas noches. Me llamo Jennifer. Mucho gusto. ¿Cómo se llama usted?
2: Mucho gusto Jennifer. Me llamo Juan. ¿Habla español?
1: Muy poquito. ¿De dónde es usted?
2: Yo soy de Nayarit, México. ¿Y usted?
1: Yo soy de Lewisport, Kentucky.
2: ¿Quiere comer o bailar?

B. Now practice the dialogue changing names and places if necessary.
C. Put a different flavor to the interaction assuming different emotions: such as you don’t like Juan. Jennifer is pissed at someone else, etc. Be creative in a new way to present the dialogue. Be ready to perform it in class.
D. Extension: Create a small dialogue based on the previous interaction. Ask a new person his/her name and where he/she comes from. Consider another situation in which you meet a new person. Practice it and be ready to perform it to clase.

L3: Los verbos copulativos (Dora);


Los verbos copulativos son ser y estar. Sirven de cópula o unión entre el sujeto y lo que se afirma o niega de él, sin modificar el significado. Ejemplos: Dios es bueno, el niño está enfermo.

¿Están cansados los obrero? -> Are the workers tired?
¿Están los obreros cansados? -> Are the tired workers present?
Estoy tan cansada. -- Pero no lo pareces. (lo = cansada)
Los exámenes del profesor Robles son muy difíciles. -- Sí, lo son. (lo = muy difíciles)
Está allí. -> It’s over there.
Es redondo y bastante pesado. -> It’s round and rather heavy.
Estar se usa para expresar ubicación de un sujeto definido, determinado. -> La señora Gómez está allí.
Ser se usa cuando el atributo es:
-una palabra o frase de tiempo -> ¿Cuándo es el concierto?
-un sustantivo o pronombre -> ¿Quién es ese señor? – Es mi hermano.
-un adjetivo o frase de origen, composición, posesión, o propósito -> ¿De dónde son los Gómez? – Son de Bogotá.
Estar indica un cambio de estado.
Maria es muy paciente = tiene mucha paciencia. (pg 22 para más ejemplos)
Quedan dos problemas más. = Two more problems remain.
Ese vestido nuevo te queda bien = That new dress fits you well.

Pablo está alegre porque acabe de oír que no tiene que tomar un examen final.
Joselin es alegre siempre se ríe y tiene una actitud de optimismo y fe.

L4: La conjunción, la negación y la ubicación y las preguntas (Carolina);
Cuatro estrategias fundamentales de la comunicación; como unir, como negar, como ubicar, como formar preguntas.

*La conjunción- manera de combinar las ideas y relacionarlas mejor. Por ejemplo; y(e), o(u), pero. Mi papa es calvo y mi mama tiene el pelo largo y rizado.
*La negación- oración negativa que requiere una palabra negativa delante del verbo. Por ejemplo; No. Mi hermana es introvertida Por ejemplo; No. Mi hermana es introvertida Mi hermana no es introvertida.
Negación de las palabras indefinidas- en oraciones negativas ciertas palabras indefinidas cambian sus equivalentes negativos. Por ejemplo; algo nada, alguien nadie, siempre nunca. Una de estas palabras tiene que ir adelante del verbo.

*Las palabras locativas-para ubicar, señalar, tenemos 3 clases de palabras; adverbios: aquí, ahí, allí, y allá. Señalan un lugar del contexto físico. Preposiciones: a, con, contra, de, desde, entre, hacia, hasta, sobre y por. Adverbios: tienen formación variada. Por ejemplo; el asiento de atrás= el asiento trasero.

*Las preguntas-
Preguntas generales- se responden con “si” o “no” (Ej: Alicia te Ayuda= Te ayuda Alicia)
Preguntas Dubitativas-expresan duda y confirmación.(Ex: Alicia no te cuida ¿verdad?)
Preguntas Disyuntivas- preguntas que ofrecen opciones.(Ex: ¿Te ayuda Alicia o Margarita?)
Pregunta parcial- útil porque obtiene nueva información en vez de pedir confirmación. (Ex: bueno se que alguien te ayuda ¿Quién te ayuda?)

L6: La descripción (Carla);

L13: El pretérito y el imperfecto; L14: Pretérito e imperfecto: su función (Fernando);


L15: El pasado del subjuntivo (Jaime)


Se forma el pasado del subjuntivo o el imperfecto de subjuntivo, tome la tercera persona plural pretérito forma de cualquier verbo regular, irregular, o madre-el cambio, la caída de la RON interminable para encontrar el radical, y añadir el final apropiado.
-RA conjugation
yo -ra; nosotros -ramos
tú -ras; vosotros -rais
él -ra; ellos -ran

-SE conjugation
yo -se; nosotros -semos; él -se; ellos -sen
tú -ses; vosotros-seis
Ejemplo:
1-Esperaba que ellos (volver) volvieran para las diez.
2-Era necesario que los jugadores (ganar) ganaran.
3-Mi mamá insistió en que yo (tener) tuviera cuidado.
4-Nos dio dinero para que nosotros (ir) fuéramos al cine después.
5-Jorge pregunto si debían quitar estas mesas y Marcos dijo que los dejaran.
6- Roberto le dijo a Lola que había con el gerente y lo ira a ascender, con un aumento de sueldo y Lola dijo fantástico que irían a un restaurante y celebrarían.
7-Carmen pregunto si podía salir a jugar ahora y la Mama dijo que hiciera la tarea primero.

L18: La narración personal (Luis)

La narración personal es importante porque nos da la oportunidad de escribir sobre un tema que conocemos muy bien.

Los niveles de Éxito en la narración personal son:

Comprensible – Lo más fundamental es que el lector pueda comprender el cuento
Interesante- La trama no solo es comprensible, sino también interesante por su tono, sus detalles y su desarrollo coherente.
Fascinante- ¡El cuento es tan eficaz que el lector no puede parar de leer! Es
comprensible e interesante, pero también demuestra el estilo maduro de un buen narrador.

El procesó de cómo llegar a Fascinante se puede obtener con asegurar que se contesten estas preguntas en la narración personal:
Trasfondo- ¿Por qué recuerdo esto, Cuando fue, Con quienes estaba, Que hacíamos?
Trama- Que paso en orden cronológico
La complicación- Que paso, Como paso, De qué manera?
El desenlace - ¿Cómo se resolvió esta situación? ¿Qué impacto tuvo?
